There have been ongoing changes that have been made in the IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) for international students since the past year to protect vulnerable international students, ensure the integrity of the International Student Programme and to root out fraud. The latest changes in the past week have been laid out below:1. Increase in Part-Time Work Limit - Now the international students will be allowed to work an added 4 hours in a week making it 24 hours per week of part-time work off-campus while on a Study Permit for full-time studies in Canada.
2. Change in Institutions while on a Study Permit - Now if a student wants to change the learning institution while on an existing Study Permit for a previous institution, the student will have to apply and be approved a new Study Permit.
3. Termination of SDS - Canada recently announced the termination of the Student Direct Stream (SDS) initiative. With this change the Indian students will now have to apply for study permits through the regular study permit stream. Students who already submitted their applications via the SDS before 2 PM ET on 8 November, their applications will be processed via the SDS but all those who have applied after the given date, their applications will be processed under the regular system.
Please check for more information about all the previous changes for international students on the IRCC website to be better informed while deciding on Canada as your study destination.
